The one thing I have noted, living a life in a disciplined way, makes a man of a different mettle. This is exemplified in a way, when you come across two gentlemen who have had spent their life in the utmost discipline, working for the armed forces.
They may seem to be Septuagenarian but at the heart, they seem to have the steel of a young person.
For a change today, two perfect gentlemen occupied couple of chairs, just left to me, I felt transposed into a generation I thought had been erased, dismantled, disrupted by the current life.
Seeing me having a look at them, one of them said, why don’t you join us?
Me: me?
He: yeah
Me: you don’t mind?
He: Son what’s there to mind, life is short, one can spend time minding it, or time living it.
Me: I love living life.
He: Doesn’t look so, I look fitter than you
Me: Haha .. effect of sitting on the desk, and lots and lots of coffee.
He: What do you do for a living?
Me: I live life for a living.
He: Son, don’t waste time after a mirage. (getting up to get his coffee)
Me: Let me get it for you.
He: Sit down, I am young enough yet, and not used to be helped. (he gets coffee)
Me: Are you from Delhi
He: No son, we are on a tour of India, for a final look, before things become difficult.
Me: So where do you belong to?
He: (Deep in thought) .. Nowhere and yet somewhere.
He: We spent our lives all over the country, from one place to the other, moving around, with families, bag and baggage. So I have grown to like all the places, but sadly enough, am confused where my home is.
Me: Still, the places where your kids are, could be a home.
He: Ah Son, your in a different world, home is a place where there are people, and in today’s world there are no people at home, and hence no home. Its a lodge, where people come by for food and sleep, and disappear the next morning. It seems to be a different person who comes in the evening, to leave again the next morning.
He: And older people like us are at times more of a load on the lodge, unable to fit into the hustle and bustle of it, and hence shunted around. It doesn’t matter today, whether its a son or a daughter, the home isn’t there, so it really doesn’t matter.
