It was a Monday, the coffee shop looked deserted, except for a few people, like me who were regulars of sorts. A working day, ignorant of its beauty, ignorant of the slanting sunshine, with its glare, indicating that its best had passed, and yet made me tilt my seat. With the glare at my side, my vision adjusting back to the normal, it was then I saw through, the tinted glasses, a couple, that caught my attention. She was beautiful and wore a radiating smile. Her eyes, shinning brilliance, her face glowing, instantly driving away the gloom setting in by the disappearing rays. As they stood, talked, his contended smile, echoing the happiness radiated by her. In love, they walked towards the door, hand in hand. He pushed it open, lady love walked in, graciously she cooed, "this place has changed". He took her overcoat, and looked around, for a place to hang, and realized, there wasn't any as he pulled a chair, for her.
To his side, appeared a young man, at hand to help him, pulling a chair for him and withdrawing to the sides, taking a paper to read. She wore a flowing dress, immaculate, flowery, light and breezy. He wore a typical suit, the off white shirt, the black trouser, the black coat, the black shoes, the perfect Gentleman. His hands glowed with a ring, and so did hers, they both took their hands in hands, looking at the rings, their eyes met, moist, as he raised his hand to her face, and she to his, to hold the precious pearls, least they shatter themselves.
As I looked on, I realised I was not alone in observing them, for he too was looking at them with eyes moist.
He: Tea?
She: Coffee, dark.
He: Me too.
She: Why?
He: I always do that, look at things from your way, so now tasting it your way.
She: You don’t give up.
He: No
She: You know the perils?
He: Always knew.
She: Your impossible.
He: You telling me now?
She: Can anyone win with you?
He: you.
She: Get me the coffee will you?
Age had not changed them, his slight baldness added the seriousness, and charm to the talk. Her charming smile, challenging the wisdom of his greying hairs. Her wittiness belied her years. His calmness epitome of patience. Their little quarrel, a mockery, as they slipped in silence, quaint in the meaning. Time passed, as did the coffee, apparently not going that well with him, his apparent discomfort, visible at times.
She : Leave it.
He : can't .
She: stubborn.
He : No, learning to appreciate your taste.
She :awww, (takes a sip)
She : You'll not be able to sleep.
He : Who wants to with you at the side.
She : Really, you havent lost your talent with the words.
He: Was it because of it, you liked me.
She: Maybe.
He: Not sure?
She: If I wasn't would I be here?
He: But still ..
She: You're much more than words, your my world
He: No, don’t limit your world, make me a part of it, else we will go apart
She: Don’t talk nonsense.
He: Its reality, not nonsense, Don’t change your world for me, let me be a part of your world. Its difficult to adjust to a new world, its easier to let a part of the world be changed.
She: You and your words, Who can win with you.
He: You
She: I want a photo with you here.
He: Excuse me, could you please help us, we would like to have a photograph for our memories sake.
Me: Sure
She: Come closer dear, we are married now, and I’m yours.
He: If I pull you closer, does it prove it more?
She: Let me come to your left side.
He: Why?
She: I'll be nearer to your heart, to hear its beats.
He: We aren’t exactly a young couple.
She: When I was you weren’t there.
He: Nor were you, when you were.
She: But that doesn’t mean we can't do what we wished to do then, now?
He: You’re as young as ever.
She: Of course, I don’t pretend.
He: Life with you will be a roller coaster. (click)
She: So soon?
He: I'm not quitting, but saying, accepting it.
