Timing is all that matters in our democracy. We are effected with a malice called Long Term Memory Loss. The electorate span of retention is may be in the terms of few months. All the Neta's and the parties have got their plans all around this timing, and knowing that its a sure shot success plan. The five year term of the government enables corruption a lot. With fearless enthusiasm, the people in power plunder the nation for 4 years and the adopt populism in the last year. Thus in fact bringing the nation to the knees with the inefficient governance and constant bleeding and filling of the personal coffins. This makes the politicians in the state and center to get away with murder.
The one way to get this under control would be to reduce the term of governance to 2 years. This would in fact also reduce the cost of elections also. Many would not agree to this, but necessity would force a cut on the spending on elections. This would give lesser time to the politicians to fill their coffins and till the nation is cured of the Log Term Memory Loss, this could be an effective mechanism of corruption control.
Its a near impossible suggestion to implement because it will hit the very economics of the politicians, it will cut their profitability and their very livelihood. But then when was politics envisaged to be a profit making profession? Was it not about serving the nation and its people? But then its a radical suggestion - Worthy or not -?
